The discovery of Picasso jasper was truly documented at the beginning of the 20th century, when the American geologist George F. Kunz (1856-1932), a passionate collector of ornamental stones, brought back samples from Utah. It was in the Rocky Mountains of the southwestern United States that the stone was first identified and appreciated for its aesthetic qualities.
